Where can girl scouts go for and overnight program in Atlanta?

I’m planning a girl scout event for 2nd and 3rd graders, overnight. Where are some places near Atlanta that the girls can stay for an overnight programs.

Thanks!

Atlanta Zoo does have an overnight program. The good news is that the girls get behind the scenes activity that you can’t experience as a regular zoo visitor. The bad news, very pricey.

Look at the Aquarium and Coca Cola plant and the museums. They may have overnight stays.

If that doesn’t work, spend an evening roughing. Most camp grounds such as KOA will have ready made fire rings, etc. making camping more convenient.

Linsey gave you a very good answer about the Atlanta Zoo. I was a parent on a group of 8th graders that did that and it was really interesting.

To go camping, and to cover your butt, you have to have a certified Brownie/Girl Scout camper. That means one of the troop leaders, or a husband, has to take a weekend course. Check with your HQ/District office to see when this is offered. If you don’t have someone certified, and something happens, you could have a major liability issue that you don’t even want to think about. And, even then, they recommend that your first camping experience be a very “limited” one…no hardcore stuff, maybe even at a hotel.

I went through the training for my wife’s troop (she had 2, one for each daughter) and we did it at Lake Lanier in 2 motorhomes; and twice at Fontana Dam in NC…a great place to go.

You can also check with your District Office to see what overnights they might recommend…again, anything you can do to limit liability is a real concern. We always had parents signed notarized waivers before we went anywhere.

The coucil camps are offering several overnight activites during the next few months. Have you check the program events page on the council website? Several brownies I know went to the Littlest Pet Shop weekend last spring and had a blast. The Harry Potter weekend is always fun.
