What do you think of my small business idea? Would you pay for this?
My husband and I have been brainstorming ideas to start our own small business. We thought about creating a vacation and travel planning service.
How this would work, is that we would have each client fill out a questionnaire detailing what their interests were, what kind of dining, entertainment, activity level, budget, and other preferences they had, and then we would completely design a trip for them to the destination of their choice. It would include a day-to-day itinerary of where to stay, eat, relax, be entertained, and cultural activities tailored to their preferences and budget. We would book hotels, make in-country travel arrangements, the whole nine yards. All they would have to do would be to show up, and experience their dream vacation. We would do all the legwork and research.
Would you pay for this? Do you think this is a good idea? How would we market this?

Great Idea! But are you knowledgeable enough to pull it off? Unless you have first hand knowledge of travel destinations, how will you know what to recommend. Unless you have special skills, don’t plan on using the Internet to research and book reservations.
There are people who do just what you’re attempting. Some work on a Membership type fee (in the thousands of dollars); others work on a percentage basis. You’ll need to provide a real benefit to make this work. I don’t want to rain on your parade — just be sure you can provide value to your customers. Why not look into providing travel services to small business? Be an outsourced travel dept. Good Luck

You will have to be very focused on your target market. Consider elderly people who are not that comfortable doing this sort of thing themselves using internet resources. Or busy professionals who are willing to pay for time-saving services.

An added important aspect is that if you are a senior, travel insurance regarding pensioners is something you ought to really consider. The older you are, the harder at risk you’re for having something poor happen to you while abroad.
